I missed the deadline for the "parts" challenge. I was taking a series of pictures and looked up at the clock, time was 11:02 and it dawned on me that I was in wrong time zone and missed the deadline. Boy was I totally, totally ticked off. I think this would have been a great entry.
So can everyone judge this like the challenge from 1 to 10, 10 being highest. Also, comments are welcome.

Thank you.

Comment:
While the choice of subject appears reasonable, good even, considering the nostalgia it can connote to those without an expressed interest in cars, the lighting is poor enough (on the car itself) to render a substantial part of it ambiguous. Where the illumination is sufficient, a thorough enjoyment of form, lines and detail is hampered by a softness of focus, which provides no anchor, no pause for the eye.
To me, the main area of interest lies at the edge of the undulating shadows and in the variegate reflection on the floor.

The composition/framing, IMHO, would be quite apt if more of the subject were rendered 'present' via a wider illumination. As it is, the framing invites the perception of a deliberate low-key abstract of wheel, bumper and fender while contradicting it by inclusion of a faintly visible door, which takes up near one third of the image.

The choice of black and white is fortunate, IMO, as it is, perhaps, not only more forgiving than colour but also complimentary to such a retro image.

At first look I didn't like it much but now that I look at it more and more I am starting to like it. I say 6.

I agree with zeuszen. I just wouldn't be able to explain it in more detail.

I'm sorry -> 3.

Well so far you got an average of around 4.4 (counting the 4 or 5s as 4) or 4.66 if you count them as a 5....

just thought i'd help a bit

Without comparing it to any other photo - to me, it stands 'on its own' as being very good indeed.
It's clearly 'Part' of the whole car. Because the rest of the image isn't illuminated it draws me in kind of 'emotionally' to want to see the rest of it - re-iterating that this is only 'part' of the whole image. Not sure if it could be improved technically, without changing the whole feeling and portrayal as it stands!?

I agree with DianaB. I really like it. I like it that it is shadows that keep you from seeing the whole car rather than just chopping it off with cropping. I'ts also interesting, which unfortunately is more than I can say for a bunch of the parts entries. I would have probably given it an 8.

I did that once with the time zone thing too! It was during the travel guide challenge, and I had just gotten back from the Rocky Mountains. I had some beautiful pictures. I was working on one, and went to submit it at about 11:15 when I looked down and noticed that a thread was already beginning asking how people were doing. I was heartbroken, but oh well. Sorry you missed your challenge.

It's a 6 for me. I like your idea but the execution has some flaws. Specifically the focus is soft and the framing is a little uninteresting. I like the B&W and the focussed light and it's a great photographic subject.
