I noticed when I call up an image edited with neat image it seems to have lost most of the exif data.. is there a way around this?

Always work on a copy of the image. Always save as and change the name as not to overwrite the original image. |

In addition, you should always keep your original and work on a copy, as you'll be asked to upload your original should a DQ request come in (or if you finish in the top 5)...

neat image automatically saves a copy called file_edited or whatever. my problem is how do i pull the exif data from the newly created file? i'm not getting this.

you dont need it, if it gets challenged u send them your unedited photo anyway. your photo that you submit to a challenge doesnt need exif data

Some programs will seemly overwrite the original EXIF info. Actually if you go into Photoshop and click on:
File>File Info>EXIF(CTRL+5) you can see all info. I just checked and NeatImage images still contains the EXIF info even though a separate file is saved.
Just remember that when you win or asked for dq you will be required to have original EXIF from the unedited file.

Believe it or not, some people use their photos outside of DPC! Unbelievable I know! ; )
Exifer will allow you to extract the exif from the original and inject it back into the edited version, and it's free.
