Maybe I'm just picky, but I had a sort of bad experience at a hotel this past weekend. I know, it's not that much money, but I was insulted by the principle.

not picky - standing up for yourself.
i did the same things for a $15 charge from the gas company for setting up an account for me. all they had to do was change the name on the account, the address, phone # and service were left as is. they didnt run a credit check legally becuase i never sent the form back. we paid close to $1800 last winter for their fuel, and they wouldn't reverse the $15 charge. they started sending me threatening letters, i called them and explained i work in a retail store, and create customer accounts daily, and have never once charged a fee. they said it was their policy. i said i wish i could earn $15 every 10 seconds ( about how long it would have taken to change the name on the account ). they said they can't change their policy, and that they hadn't sent me any threatening letters. i paid the damn fee.....
EDIT: ironically - a week later my girlfriend got a nw job, and one of the benefits is a reduced rate on gas from this very company - so i'll get the $15 back, and then some. at the same time refer people i know elsewhere ;}

| Did you use the phone at any time? They will charge you if its local or even to room service. They will try to get as much money as they can and its wrong. A $1.11 per customer adds up.. a bad way of making money. |

Nope, didn't use the phone at all, not even to call the front desk. They called it some sort of "security surcharge," that even the lady checking me out didn't seem to understand.

Weird, so does everyone have to pay the surcharge?

Ihave had experience of extra's being charged to my room. Whilst on holiday in Sharm-El-Sheikh in Egypt, we were staying at the Radison Sas which is a 5 star hotel. On checking out I noticed that I had a mini bar charge for the Saturday. It was not a great deal of money, from what I remember about 5 GB Pounds. I refused to pay as my wife and I were in fact staying in Cairo from the Friday until the Sunday. They said I must pay, I still refused and insisted on them getting the Manager down and we could sort it out. 'No need for that' they said and removed the item from my bill. I refuse to pay for something I did not have and I dont care how small an amount it is. I just get pis*ed off at people trying to rip other people off.

I am such an optimist I don't remember details of the smaller things that piss me off for very long after they happen but... I know I was somewhere and they tried to add mini bar items to my bill.
Nuh uh, no way no how.
I didn't pay it.
I have also had a tip added to my bill on occasions where service was so appalling I had the manager remove it. I reminded them that it was discretionary and that there was no way in heck I was gonna pay it.
