I thought they were supposed to be wild animals in their natural environment. Not zoo'ed up animals and pets?

1) I just asked a question - I didn't state how I was voting - read again
2)Even if I was - it's not being narrow it's sticking to what I thought to be the rules.
[/i]For the purpose of this challenge, "wildlife" should be considered non-domesticated mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians living in a natural environment.[/i]
With emphasis on living in a natural environment

If it looks natural I think it meets the challenge. If there are bars and man made structures then they don't meet the challenge.
If you want to be picky it says in a natural environment NOT their natural environment.

Well i guess that just depends on how much credit you give to wildlife photographers that take their time to find an animal in it's habitat and get a photograph off before it runs away.
I didn't enter BTW.

Read again your self.
I was just asking the reader not to be narrow, not directed at you but all readers.

I am a great fan of nature photographers. Anyone on who waits in rain and suffers multiple ant bites fir that one shot deserves credit. or the sake of this challenge I don't expect our members to go on Safari through the wilderness of africa for a shot for the wildlife challenge. Inspiring people to visit a zoo were the profits go towards helping rare and injured animals is good enough for me.
I didn't enter either.

I agree BooZon, just don't end there, if it inspires people to think and go out and shot good pictures then credit is due.
I'm voting on high on all the good pics in wildlife.
If there is just a hint of wildlife in them or just a slight connection then I'm not voting down, just on the picture it self.
If there is no connection at all like the graybox picture in Team Sport Action then I'll vote dwon and leave a boring comment.

You do not have to go on a Safari to find wildlife.
Going to a Zoo is not the same. If I found out that Andy Rouse took his photographs in a Zoo I would be dissapointed - but we are all different ;)

I think zoo animals are ok as long as the rest of the picture (background, etc.) could be in the wild; that is- not betrayed by things like bars or moats. However, I am voting low on the few shots of animals that are not mammal, bird, reptile or amphibian. Pretty obvious that these photographers did not read the details of the challenge before entering. |
