Do you have a reference for Sony making sensors for Canon cameras? I've looked around and can't find any myself.. (Just curious.)

Direct reference to use of the 8mp 2/3" sensor in the Canon Pro1 (link). Sony makes two of these sensors, the RGBE version for themselves and the RGB version for the customers.//www.dpreview.com/reviews/canonpro1/
More about the sensors themselves here: //www.sony.net/Products/SC-HP/cx_news/vol36/icx456aq.html

The G6 and S70 use the Sony 7.24mp, 7.1 effective 1/1.8" CCD, that is this one: //www.sony.net/Products/SC-HP/cx_news/vol37/icx489.html, but no hard references for that.

The (famous?) Canon Pro 90 had the same sensor as the Sony F505V, according to the Dpreview Canon Pro 90 review.

If you look at the Sony sensor planning (don't have a link at hand) the new sensors are often followed by new cameras from various manufacturers, including Canon. It doesn't mean that Canon buys Sony sensors for all their consumer cameras, they can also buy from Panasonic, Sanyo, Kodak and some others. I don't believe that the Fuji SCCD's are for sale.
I dare to say that Canon does not make any CCD's for digital cameras (unsure about DV), only CMOS. Even the 1.3x 4mp CCD in the Canon EOS 1D was not from Canon, but from Panasonic. In their annual reports they only talk about inhouse CMOS development and about their Digic chips. I have not seen any talk about CCD development.
Same thing with Nikon. Nikon doesn't make CCD's either. Their first attempt to produce their own sensor was the D2h LBCAST thingie.

Here is an interesting article about CCD/CMOS production and market shares plus a hint about the future of the CCD:Sony Chases Rivals in Image Chip Race
