I'm looking to increase the macro capability of my camera. The S1 does not have a macro mode but does a decent job without it.
I'm considering the Hoya +1 +2 +4 filter set. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about them?

Also, how important is the multi-coating?

Thanks, any input is appreciated.

If you go for these, do get the coated ones. You want to cut down on reflections that can cause image degradation, especially since you may stack them.
Hoya is a good brand, and I think you will be satisfied with the results. Do recognize, thought, that any time you put more glass in the optical path, you may get some image degradation. And do be prepared for very small DoF. Use of manual focus (preset it & move camera to focus) becomes a must at high magnifications. |

I have a set of these that I used on my Fuji 602. I loved them!
I think I just got the normal ones rather than multi-coated, and would probably go for the coated ones if I were buying now, but they did a great job and were loads of fun to use.

I've just started using a Nikon 6T, the thing oozes quality and will be way better than the hoya filters as (as far as I know) the Nikon filter uses 2 pieces of glass. This cuts down on the loss of quality one piece of glass gives you as you move from the centre of the frame. |

Thanks for the advice. I've seen some cheaper close up sets on Ebay, I'm guessing they are not as good as a B+W or Hoya set. Is that a good guess?

I don't think you'll ever regret the purchase. However, depth of field becomes VERY limited. |
