I know that this site doesn't change much, but I just saw the first 100+ votes on a challenge in quite a while, and I think it was because of the incoming DPL, and it got me thinking.
How hard is it to pin the familiar Facebook/Pinterest/Twitter links to each photo so we can share our photos socially? 1x, viewbug, and flickr (and I'm sure many others) have this ability, and it just has to be a gold mine for their visibility.
Assuming my guess is right, if something like DPL word-of-mouth (and maybe some emails to ex-members) could boost participation like this, imagine what a simple link like this could do for this site. I'd love to share my photos to friends and family on Facebook or Twitter, and introduce this website to folks who probably don't know it exists.
Just a thought, if I'm treading familiar ground, please let me know... :) |

| That's a new one on me. I don't know much about this stuff. Sounds like a strong upside: what're the downsides, if any? |

It's pretty much against the rules to do this during voting ...

Totally agree--just make the links available on the photos after voting is over... |

Langdon would have to write a script/piece of code to post the links and graphics somewhere on the photo's display page; probably similar to the code used to optionally apply a watermark to an image. |

The only risk I can see is making sure the tagged image does not go out until after the voting is completed. Nothing like stumbling on an image posted elsewhere that you just voted on to tip the hand on who took the picture.
I know there are a few folks on the site who are well set up to use Flickr and Facebook as a good marketing tool who know more than I do. The benefits of getting a wider awareness of the site would surely outweigh the downsides. |

| If I'm sharing my work with my Facebook friends, I almost never actually upload it to Facebook--I will link it from Flickr or 1x. I think I would be more likely to link it from this site if I had the chance. |

It shouldn't be hard for Langdon to implement since he doesn't have to write much code... unless he wants to change it all around but it would be an easy add with this premade template

That would be easy to do, just exclude this page "//www.dpchallenge.com/challenge_vote_list.php"

| Fairly brilliant idea, and right in our face all along. Would be easy to implement. Massive publicity surge. |

Nobody has to add any code to make DPC social. You can do this already with a simple app or extension added to your browser. I downloaded hootsuite to manage social media postings and there is an extension added to the browser where I can post anything I want to any social media outlet with a simple right click.

Thanks, I'll check that out. My point is that most people don't, or won't, go the extra mile to post something socially from here, but if there were an easy link next to your photo, it would happen a lot, and it could be only good news for this site's visibility. |

I dinked around with my Firefox browser tonight, and I never realized that there's an upwards arrow in the upper right-hand corner that will actually post social media from whatever page you're on. So I went to my last photo and made a Facebook post with it, and it looked just like I wanted for something to share a DPC shot with my friends:
This is exactly how I wanted my post to look, and I'll continue to do this when I want to share photos, but I still think it would be great to have the link available for everyone to easily share their photos. |

Anything that gets eyeballs on DPC images, perhaps gets folks aware of us, is a good thing.

It's funny how people find this site. I found DPC after meeting Joey L. at a photo exhibit in Dubai that featured his work in Ethiopia, then I googled him and found his tutorials, where he mentioned dpchallenge in an interview. I had no idea who he was beforehand. He was already DPC royalty, and had done commercial work with TV shows, and most famously at the time, the Twilight movie posters. All I knew at the time was that his shots from Ethiopia were incredible, and I wanted to learn how to create work as good as his.
That would be a good thread--how did you find this site? |

Not even thinking about an external extension (an add on) I found one for Google Chrome.

This is how it posts...
