Yet.

You should all be very proud and thankyou for the wonderful images...wow.

Randy, you would have fit right in in the Master's challenged! Your "Kiss" photo is incredible and would have been a strong contender.

(blushing) thankyou.

Here's what I'm curiouser and curiouser about.
Considering the qualifications for the masters challenge.
How many people could have entered photos.
In other words, how many people have won two or more ribbons?
and...
what is the ratio members to registered users in the master category.

Like I say...curious is all.

Someone said there were 125 eligible with two or more ribbons and 100 active members with 2 ribbons and logged in the site since August 1st. The master challenge was only for members so registered users couldnt submit to the challenge. I have no idea how many registered users with two ribbons there are, tho. Probably not too many.

Kiwi, did you seriously not enter? That should result in your immediate dismissal from all DPC-related keg parties until rectified. Shame! lol

As far as the pics, they were better than average. I didn't give any 1-3, but I did give a few 4's, some 5's, a lot of 6's, some 7's, probly four 8s, five 9s and three 10s. :) Overall higher than average, but no more than I expected from this group.

I have a question regarding all of the portrait studies in this challenge. Maybe it's my personal taste when viewing a duotone of sorts but many of the portraits really lack punch in the contrast department. Has anyone else noted this phenomenon? I dno't mean to say I don't like them which couldn't be further from the truth. I think that they are all well done but I tend to deduct points if the image seems too washed out. Am I being too critical?

Sorry, but I didn't know where else to post my comment/question and I didn't want to start *another* thread on the master's challenge.

Most of my editing is done on a Cinema Display, which is brighter and contrastier than most CRTs. Sometimes I've been really surprised to see how flat my images are on another monitor. Neat Image can also have a flattening effect if the photographer aims for smooth skin. The best any of us can do is vote based upon what we see and what we like.

FWIW- I didn't enter a portrait, but my image DID turn out flatter than I intended.

Well, I usually vote based on what I like (high contrast) and as a result, many of the entries are getting less than stellar votes from me in the 6-8 range. Not to say that I don't like the less contrasty photos they just don't have as much of a chance to get a 10 from me. I guess it's all personal when it comes to voting.

As someone who has yet to earn a ribbon on this site, I went through the Masters Challenge and tried to find at least one good thing (easy!) about every one of them, and at least one thing that could be improved (very difficult with some! ... and a precious few, I was baffled) about every shot.

I commented pretty extensively. Every shot received a comment and a vote from me, and my comments were at least two sentences (and often entire paragraphs) for each and every shot.

I feel that I've learned a great deal by going through this process, and I can't wait to see the results and the comments of others, including the masters, to one another.

Let us try to remember that 'Masters' just means people who have ribboned - not expert photographers..
