I've been following this story, the derailment happened a few miles from my office.
Something just seems weird.. I have a suspicion that it wasn't the driver's carelessness, worse is i think that it was externally motivated.

No idea, but they are evidently investigating that possibility. Something hit the train hard enough to crack the windshield. |

Two other local passenger trains got hit something too around the same time.
