I don't really use Photoshop that much and although I am OK with adjustment layers I don't really understand Actions.

I know you can download them and I understand they are a series of stages to apply to an image, but I don't really understand how to access them once downloaded and how to apply them. Also, once 'imported' if that's what you do, are they always available or just for that one Photoshop session?

Thanks

Paul

action are just macros. you can record them yourself or download ones others have made.

for instance i have an action that: duplicates my default layer names it liquify, adds a blank layer and names it "heal" adds a blank layer and names it "clone" add a blank layer, sets the blend mode to "soft light" and names it "dodge and burn".

i use those layers on almost every image i edit so i made an action that does it all for me.

you can record your own really easily, if there is something that you do often, its beneficial to make an action out of it.

if you download them from others I believe you need to copy them into the folder where PS looks for actions, not sure where that is without looking it up.

I found this youtube video really helpful for understanding how to create your own actions, plus in the end they tell you how to import downloaded ones. They are always available after you have uploaded them :)

I was going to add a couple of simple instructions, but that video will do a much better job.

Like Mike, I have a couple of actions for doing repetitive tasks. I have one for adding a copyright mark, and a couple for doing denoise operations via Topaz Denoise. I use those when batch processing shots from shooting my daughters gymnastics competitions.

Many thanks.

That's all very useful, including the video.
