It does appear that you are fighting a battle that is at least partially camera body. The right lens is very important as well - or at least learn your lens well - where it performs great, and where it does not. I'm with Bear_Music on the 70D. I really like mine, and feel that I'm finally getting close to the quality of shots I want. This year's pictures of the dance company my daughter is in were much much better than even last year's. I've progressed from the XSi to the T1i to the 60D and now the 70D. The T1i was a good bump up, the 60D was about the same as the T1i, but the 70D was another large step up. Part of it is the sensor, part the processor, and part the multi-point auto focus. They just all come together very nicely in the 70D. Another big step up was shooting RAW - a bit more post processing, sometimes it doesn't seem to make much difference, but other times, it makes a huge difference. |

for example, the XSi. |
Mike, what would be a good body to look at to replace it with then? I can't break the bank with a 5D, but what would be something that would be upgraded where I can see a significant difference? |
any new crop body will do you fine. 60D or 70D or even the newer rebels. the XSi only goes to ISO 1600 if i am correct. not only will you be able to shoot in darker conditions you will have lower overall noise.
you could also try removing the noise in post.
ETA, looking at the images you posted i don't really see a problem. if you shoot at ISO 800 or 1600 regularly, upgrade, if not, stop pixel peeping :P
