I just got an idea reading the other "Masters" thread.
We've talked in the past about having "mentoring" or whatever it was called. How about a "coached" challenge, where people are paired with those with ribbons (or high averages, I guess) and they "coach" them (by p.m.) with shot ideas and feedback. This could be a 1 month long free-study "team" project, and at the end of the month, the voting begins.
I think this would be a great way for DPC members to get to know one another better, to help each other learn, and to have fun.
What do you think? |

:(
I feel bad enough when I make the wrong decisions with my own work.
I would feel TERRIBLE if I imposed my yet to be discovered talent on someone elses work and it wasn't well accepted. |

TBD. But there doesn't have to be a 1:1 ratio. A coach could potentially give advice to 2 or more people. I think we could do it like the old mentoring method. Those who want coaches, post in a thread. Coaches will volunteer and contact them privately, and then the person could edit their post and simply mark themselves "paired" so no other coaches need to volunteer.
Or it could be done randomly by someone. |

While I agree with the current masters challenge ... I'm not sure if continuing to dig the trench between masters and non-masters is a good idea.
Still, the concept sounds interesting :) |

I would take the member with the highest score over 100 challenges. |

thats a good point. a distinction like that isnt what most people want. for me, its no diff. i know im not a master (yet =)), so i dont take it personally. but we saw some people did... |

If pairings could be made based on georgraphic location, maybe some face to face couching would be posibile. However, that is asking a lot from our masters.
EDIT: On second thought, that may be a bad idea. I can see myself leaving this challenge with $1000+ worth of new equipment.

Excellent idea... I think that the people without 2 ribbons deserve a challenge, how about pairing 'Masters' with 2 ribbons as mentors with those who want to take part? It's going to have to be decided randomly though from a pool of people who want to take part, as there will be some very popular mentors... and I reckon it should be done fairly! |

You mean you would actually steal photo equipment from a Master?
Hey...I just thought of something. A Master's challenge where they all have to use a Canon A40's to shoot and that crappy program that comes with the camera to edit their shots...

How about having it on a basis where instead of ribbon winners, focus on average vote recieved where the pair's averages added together come to no more than 10?
As for following the 'masters' route - I choose Kiwiness, he's just about in close enough range for a serious beer weekend :)
