for some reason I've been having problems when I import photos from my camera into Lightroom 4. This has just started happening a few months ago...

What happens is that I click "Import Photos and Video" and then I select my memory card and select the photos I want, but if I choose like more than 8 then the screen just gets stuck on "Converting to digital negative and import" and sometimes I get all my photos uploaded to Lightroom and a lot of time I don't get any and I have to restart Lightroom.

Has this happened to anyone else? Or does anyone know how to fix it?

I NEVER directly import from camera to any software. I alway transfer to computer in files/folders (by date) then I will load into Lr (import) - computer software continually fails...computers not as much.

I've not seen that...though I moved up versions of LR long ago.

Try copying to a local drive, then doing the exact same sort of import. Maybe there's a problem reading the CF cards. That will be the text (make sure you don't just import in place after the copy, since that won't be an effective test). If it works importing from the HD, then it's a problem in reading your CF. Perhaps reformat it, when it's next empty.

Thanks! yeah I immediately thought about that after I posted this so I tried uploading to my computer then uploading to LR. It worked perfectly like normal. Though I still don't understand why it stopped reading from my cards. I'll try reformatting them, thanks Neil and Ja-9.
