Whoa, I never thought the same would be true of MILCs! I never think to carry the cover for my Nikon and for long exposures I usually throw my lens cloth over the camera top or hold my hand near the viewfinder for the exposure. I was hoping one of the benefits of mirrorless was that the light would only be going through to the LCD, not into the camera! Or maybe that's specific to some cameras...light leak? Anyway, I better look that up for the Fuji before I go out and do any long exposures with my 10 stop ND!

You are misunderstanding what they are talking about, there is no light leak like with a traditional SLR camera. What they are talking about is the EVF getting burned from sun shinning into it. It is something that has been reported to happen with a few OMD cameras. From my reading about the issue it seems to be pretty random and only has happen to a small number. There is some guy who claims it happens when you have the diopter set to max and sun enters it just right. Personally I think it is a non-issue that has happened to a very few units and regardless, Olympus has repaired everyone of them for free. You know, the squeaky wheel is the one that is always heard.

Ah, thanks, that's a relief. I was hoping I didn't have to do the covered viewfinder dance anymore. :)

I thought I may as well ask another question in my thread instead of starting a new one.

I have been looking through the manual which seems very basic for the EM1 and can't find what I am looking for but for some reason whenever I try and use say the 81 point focus it will still only focus on a single point.

When I had my Nikon and I took say landscape pictures you would see it focus on multiple points in the image but with the Olympus I still only see one focus point.

I'm sure I have a setting wrong, I have the Fn2 button set so I can change from 9 point to 81 point and it does change, would anyone with the EM1 know what setting needs to be changed?

Though I am a newbie to OMD series as well but I have also set the movie record button to all focus point home. Still if I manually select a specific focus point either by touching the screen or using the direction pad, no matter how much I press the movie record button, it won't switch from selected single point to all. What I found is that I had to press OK and then press movie record button to make it work.

Thanks for the tip, I will give it a go and see what happens.

Still no luck, I can still only get one focus point to light up on a landscape picture, no idea what I am doing wrong.

You only need one focus point for a landscape.
You decide where you need it in relationship to the image being shot and the DOF (f-stop) being used.
Why would you need more?

Are you following the directions for "choosing a focus target" and "setting the AF target" on page 54 of the English manual? I don't shoot with an E-M1 but the manual seems pretty straight forward on how to do it however, I don't have the camera to try it out on.

I have read the manual and worked out how to change from 81 points to 9 points to single point and also how to move a focus point around the screen.

Photography for me is just a hobby and I'm far from an expert but after using the Nikon D7000 when taking say a picture of a bridge over a river my old Nikon would have focus points pop up everywhere on the screen focused on the bridge, a tree, the river so everything was in focus.

The EM1 only ever seems to have one focus point come up, maybe that is the way Olympus does it and there is no way to have multiple focus points.

If i am getting this right you mean EM1 only highlights ONE focus point out of all available? I think that's how its designed vs on point & shoots and other cameras where those other cameras highlight multiple focus points - all that lie in the focal plane. EM1 picks one out of all available points to highlight where it is focusing and doesn't bother highlighting other points. So you are still using ALL focus points.

You are correct, I only ever see one focus point coming up which had me thinking what is the point of 81 and 9 points if only one was being used, thank you for explaining it. :)
