I think it's a shame not everyone votes, I really do. Tsk, tsk!
But I'm realistic. And in America (for example) less than 60% of eligible voters vote in presidential elections. Nationwide, on average, just a hair over 20% vote on LOCAL elections. And THOSE are elections that actually make a difference in people's lives! Why should I expect better from an online community where it takes a couple of HOURS, minimum, 3X a week, to vote thoughtfully on challenge entries?
Anyway, that's my take on it. It's not a huge deal to me. It would be GREAT if more members voted actively, and it's definitely worth encouraging, but there's no point at ALL in attempting to make people feel bad, or feel as if they're somehow derelict and second-class citizens, because for one reason or another they prioritize differently than I do. After all, I'm retired and I have oceans of time. Lucky me! |

Yes, I am aware of these. What I have suggested would be another category which addresses the issue of voting in challenges as a relationship of challenges entered. |

And the purpose of this list, other than to criticize, demean, embarrass, or otherwise cast negative aspersions on those who fail to meet your "acceptable ratio," would be ...?

If your not doing anything wrong then you shouldn't feel criticized, demeaned, embarrassed, or otherwise.
Since when did feelings matter, didn't we have a challenge not long ago where you had to have a certain amount of ribbons to enter?
I don't remember being asked how I would feel not being able to enter.
I guess I didn't meet your "acceptable ratio" of ribbons.

That statement would mean that anyone not voting to the frequency of your liking is doing something "wrong" |

I vote consistently and fairly.
I take my honest evaluation of the photograph on the 1-10 scale, then I subtract it from 10, and assign that as my vote.
I hate quality.

It's actually a goal to aspire to......it's called a Masters' Free Study.
They run concurrently with a regular Free Study so *everyone* still gets to play.
What is DOES do is give you a terrific feeling of accomplishment upon being eligible for the first time.
It's kinda like having to work hard and develop to a certain point rather than just getting a pat on the head for participation so as not to offend anyone.
So far as I know, there have been three of them in the almost ten years I've been here.....hardly something to get one's knickers in a twist over.
