I am certain that backlash would outweigh the benefits.

How do you feel about opening up the voting so that we know the photographer? Not that I think that would fly either, but I wonder what effect it would have on voter participation.

I suggest that we have a community top statistics category for " most votes per challenge entered". For example, I have entered 472 challenges and voted on 90,427 pictures. My score would be 192. The same could be done for comments made.

My Votes per Entries score is 308 (65574/213) :)

I'd be a measly 31 or so, but a 27 on the comments scale, which doesn't sound so great either, until you compare it to you two single-digiters!

How about if you don't vote in at least one challenge per week, you can't enter one or all of the challenges the following week; now bring on the backlash.

Hmmm... So, let me understand this. You want more people to vote and would even consider tying participation privileges to basically force people to vote if they want to enter challenges.

Do you really want people casting random votes that really don't want to vote?

Would certainly ramp up the scores threads to whole new levels! :-)

Perhaps I am one of those people who absolutely hates being told that I "Have to" do something, but from my perspective, this is yet another inane suggestion that raises my hackles.

How about a person not being allowed to enter any challenges until the number of votes they cast is equal to or surpasses the votes they received... now that I am certain would entice people to vote huh?

Now bring on the backlash.

Guys, this is heading towards personal attacks. Cut it out.

For the record, DPC will NEVER enact any suggestion forcing participation. If you insist on making suggestions of that nature, then be prepared to deal with the fallout. Or as my trainer keeps telling me: "suck it up, princess".

We are not here to punish anyone for not participating in a specific way. Our "limiting" guidelines are for images only, while TOS are to ensure civility and fairness.

What I find more dismaying is how every question and suggestions turns into a rant so quickly. I am certain that affects participation/commenting/voting FAR more than anything else.

I'm sorry for the "zombie rabbits" quip. :(

Based on your response I will work on the assumption you did not like my proposal.

In order to clarify things, I definitely did not write this because you wrote it, but rather to demonstrate just how inane your suggestion was.

Having said this, as long as you are in the mood for responding to things I wrote, perhaps you might give consideration to answering what wrote on 04/20/2015 01:19:39 PM · #90 or could it possibly be that you have not yet managed to find that demonstrable proof that I alluded to.

Yes I do, but that would involve calling out names which is not allowed.

Calling out Names - by Kurupt? So... the title of this thread should be "DPC is Kurupt"

This thread sucks, it's a total buzz kill. I'm trying to renew my dpc vibe but everyone trying to come up with these dumb ass rules is just pissing me off. Please lock the thread.

I'm sorry if I sound frustrated. I just can't understand why someone would want to belong to a site where they love to receive votes and comments and then give nothing back to the community, seems strange that's not how I operate at home, work or with my friends. I don't get it. I know people lack time, but even that is a cliche, If you have time to write on this thread and other threads you have time to vote. It disheartens me when some people don't.

You know this place has taught me quite a lot, and I appreciate it, I really do.

I propose that if you open this thread, instead of writing another something snippy, go vote and comment on one of several challenges in voting
04/23/2015 12:42:02 AM · #170
I am one of those who votes seldom, though more lately than formerly. I have a problem with attaching numbers to photos. But I do comment, and I do value comments.

Possibly I am getting creaky, but I think we have rather a lot of challenges per week.

how about you (and others) quit telling people how or how often they should vote.

Since I fall in the (and others) category I would like to say I never told anyone to vote I was simply trying to find out why people didn't vote.
If people feel that the question is too personal I can handle that.

Yes I do understand we are not obligated to vote and yes there is no penalty for not voting I get it. I was just asking why.

For me it's pretty simple - I'm busy, and every day I have to choose things that I will not do, things that I will let slip.

Voting on DPC is somewhere near the 100th most important thing to do on my list (entering is probably somewhere near #25 these days), and as such it simply never gets done..

Sure, you can say that I could vote instead of talking on the forums here, but frankly, I like the forums and don't really enjoy voting.

I understand that some folks enjoy voting - and I think that's awesome. I'm just not one of them, but I do try to do my 'duty' whenever I have the time and feel even the slightest inclination to do so. Still, I barely EVER vote.

asking a question is fine, but some are suggesting that there be rules in place to force people to vote, thats wrong. In fact it's very pretentious attitude and this thread could be summed up in this sentence: "I took the time to enter so you better take the time to look at it and vote on and if I dont like the score you gave it shouldn't count."

be grateful that someone took the time to vote and comment if they do, instead of being greedy for recognition and whining if you dont get it.

Like Cory said, people come here for different reasons.
