So why not walk away instead of kill them? I hate that impulse in people to kill things they simply don't like. Yes, Black Widows can be dangerous, but they don't go hunting people. We encroach on their territory so why don't you try to live and let live?

Considering the recent administrators announcement regarding the banning of "threadkacking", before I respond to this post, would a moderator please confirm if Imagineer's post is "Threadjacking"? If it is please remove the post. If not then let us know so that I may respond to the post...

Hey Jeff (Anachronite) - I'm responding to your description against your fave photo, so it's hardly off-topic. As you'll find people don't tend to value photos of dead bugs as highly as live ones.

By the way I'm not a DPC terrorist or anything, but being called a Threadjacker does sound a bit grand at least. :D

acctually your question had nothing to do with the photo iteself, but rather it was moral question as to why I did not let them live. Questioning ones morals hardly has anything to do with the technical or artistic merit of a photo.

I would like to respond to your original question, if the moderators allow it.

For the record, I did not call you a threadjacker. I simply asked the moderators to deside if you are or not. If anyone calls you a threadjacker, it will be them and not me.

It had everything to do with technical merit. Killing bugs and shooting them is easy (if cruel and gratuitous). Shooting a live bug, getting up close and personal is more impressive in my view.

This is one of the very first shots I marked as one of my favorites. It just blew me away when I came across it and it still does. It's simply beautiful art!

My favorites at the moment:

Because the scene came together well, and I like the old look. Taken with my Mavica FD92

Because I think it really conveys "celebration", and because I think these kinds of photos are more difficult to take well.

Because I like the editing and the overall effect.

Because I'm a big fan, and this is different from all the other concert pics I took. I like the intensity of the pose and lighting.

I thought the original response relevant -- having to do with the materials and methods involved with obtaining the photo (including possible moral choices).

But, given that the purpose of the thread was to provide an informal "gallery" for the posting of photos of a certain category, diverting the thread off into ANY in-depth discussion of and ONE of the photos is somewhat inappropriate.

Each photo (hosted at DPC) has its very own discussion thread. It starts as the comments made during voting (if it was an entry), but otherwise functions exactly like a forum thread, including all formatting, quoting, and linking capability. I believe that is the appropriate forum (sic) to discuss any particular aspects of the photo in greater depth.

The other option would be to start a new Individual Photograph Discussion thread for the photo in question (and that photo only), and continue the discussion there.

So I guess, IMO, no one of these posts constitutes threadjacking, but the cumulative effect of continuing the discussion in this thread might be. I suggest you copy/paste your comments into one of the other locations and carry on there, or exchange PMs.

Just one opinion and suggestion, but probably not an official ruling ...

Thanks for your restraint in the meantime : )

I am in agreement with GeneralE's opinion here. The reply is appropriate and relevant... but given that you see the potential for this to become a significant discussion, the best course of action would probably be to create a new thread for your reply, and then include a link to that thread here.

Though I blew the title in the challenge this really is my favorite photo. I like it most because it was the first time I ever applied film techniques to digital photography to produce special effects. I was amazed at how well it came out. It's still kind of creepy seeing my daughter like that.
