Yes. "Spot" seemed so real, and the reaction was so, well, normal
for a kicked critter that I cringed too.

There was something very amusing about the two of them running side by side in the car park that made me chuckle! |

Wow, that's super cool. Something about the way it marches is just creepy. Near the end I presume that was a gas powered model? Imagine it with a big-block supercharged V8, and about 5 times as big??? The stuff of nightmares. |

The kicking was indeed gratuitous, but think of it as a harbinger of its future endeavors on the battlefield of a fast-approaching tomorrow. |

more than gratuitous, the kicking. there was a time when men (yes, men) thought nature was pure mechanism, that is, that creatures other than man had no feelings, and they did bad (gratuitous) things to celebrate this feat (!) of reason. so for someone or anyone like me who attempts to plumb history for clues to our inhumanity, those kicks evoke a certain horror.
not that I am a Findhornian, but I do believe in at least respecting the possibility that some kind of force resides in a machine ... I remember talking to my bicycle when I had trouble re-attaching a loose chain in the middle of nowhere.
they are somehow beautiful those 4 legged creations, and slightly frightening to think about. no, I would not kick them. |

Boston Dynamics has just been purchased by Google, btw.
Soon, we should start a thread: "Google Gobbles" |

we're they're just one step closer...
i wonder if the video was shot by/from another bot, or by a person.
i wonder how long before they evolve from walking on all fours to walking on two legs.
i wonder how long before they start mating replicating themselves. |

The kicking was just a shove to show the stability programming, which is just amazing.

They go to some lengths to make the devices appear to be sentient, and then kick the daylights out of one of them.
Yup, amazing. |
