Can someone please help me figure out how to clean up and organize my Workshop?
When I bring a photo to the site to submit for challenges, I do so through the Workshop. However, I must be doing something wrong because now there are two of every single image I have imported into my Workshop - and, in no particular order.
In an effort to eliminate the duplications, I attempted to delete a couple but kept getting the message that I could not delete challenge images.
Can I create a collection folder and move duplicates to that? Then the problem becomes, I am unable to discern which is the duplicate and which is actually linked to the challenge data.
Any tips anyone can toss my way regarding this conundrum I seem to have created would be hugely appreciated. Thanx! |

The easiest way to avoid this is to upload your entry directly and bypass the Workshop folder -- that technique is primarily so that people can post an image for comments prior to submission or otherwise "test" it, but when you enter from the Workshop it always makes a copy ...
You can't delete the copy used for an entry, but you should be able to delete or replace the other ... compare the Image_ID number of your entry (from the results) and then delete the other ... |

Jeepers - okay. May PM you if (more probably WHEN) I encounter a hitch.
A project I'll tackle in the morning with my veins fortified with more java and less vouvray.
Thanks! |

Normally, when you first upload your image to the workshop and use the 'Copy from workshop' function to submit it to a challenge, a copy of that image will appear in your Portfolio. It's this copy that can't be removed as it is used in the challenge. But you should be able to remove the one in your Workshop then.
If you want to make a collection folder, there is a simple way to see which one you can move: just have a look at the image ID in the URL bar. The image that is submitted usually has a higher number! |

So, if I have grasped what GeneralE and Kroburg have stated: if I have one number that is 1129379 for an image and another number for the same image that is 1129380, I can delete the lower number, 1129379 and not endanger the image submitted for challenge? Right?
I'm not trying to sound obtuse, I just don't want to make a terminal error. |

I may be misunderstanding, but I think you are worrying needlessly. Sounds as if DPC will not LET you delete the copy - the one DPC programming created when you entered a challenge from the Workshop. That would make sense - if people could delete their entries either during the voting or after the fact, we'd have tons of old challenge archives that were riddled with deletions. So you can't go wrong when you do your house cleaning.
In addition, should one of your entries need validation, that is done by submitting a brand new original to site council and has nothing to do with the entry itself. |

Thanks, Nikki, for the comments. As a matter of workflow, I have gotten into the habit of submitting the original with the work process right after I submit an entry. I don't know where that goes, but I never see it again which is fine by me - less visual clutter the better. ::grin::
The lesson I've learned is not to use Workshop to bring in images for challenges. |
