I didn't want to sabotage another thread suggesting another "... of 2014" challenge but the following idea crossed my mind:
Has there ever been a "Re-do the exact same image from another challenge and edit it to be very different / better" challenge?
Caveat: must be an image that did NOT score in the top 20% of the original challenge.

I think that would be a great challenge to have a go at.
Whether I would still have the source image is another matter...

One time they did have a challenge like that. But hmmmm... I can't remember if they allowed you to re-edit an old challenge entry, or if you had to go re-shoot the photo altogether. I like the idea, tho. I have some old challenge entries that make me wince when I look at them now and think, "OMG! What was I THINKING!!!" It would be redeeming to get to "fix" one!

It was the latter... |

I think another caveat would be that Expert editing challenges would be excluded. |

Tate, it's a fun idea but there are a few issues:
1. How many members actually can lay their hands on valid originals of old and mediocre challenge entries?
2. The rules, of course, don't allow using the same image twice so we'd have to flag it, though that's doable.
3. We'd have to flag the dates open too.
4. There's an anonymity issue to be considered.
5. That 20% criterion makes extra validation work, plus it's sort of arbitrary since 20% of 200 means "not in the top 40" and 20% of 50 means "not in the top 10"...
Still, it sounds like fun... I know *I* can find all my originals for a LONG ways back, but... |

So does that mean all my photos that scored a 3 and a 4 will be a 3 and 4 even if it was re-edited?
I would rather delete my worst photos from my portfolio LOL |

Ideally, you'd have an image that has a lot of unrealized potential, and you'd come back to it with fresh eyes and make it shine. To whatever degree it outscored itself in the replay challenge, that would be a personal triumph, ribbon or not.
We could perhaps even have a "special ribbon" set for the 5 images that most improved their scores :-) |

The old saying "you can't polish a turd" sprang to mind when I read this, LOL.

The issue is again, deleted all of my original files LOL maybe we can have a flip and bend with the worst image instead?? |

The other "problem" with this concept is that the photo's original score came in the context of the challenge into which it was entered; in the "repeat" challenge it will be scored as if in a Free Study.
As a side challenge this might work because, anonymity could be waived and both versions could be posted, if the idea is to compare the two editing efforts ... |
