Photograph a scene without using an artificial light source and/or reflectors/diffusors. Sun, moon and stars only. No flashes of any kind, no indoor lighting (tungsten or fluorescent), no streetlights even. Fire (including candle light, matches etc.) and lightning count as natural light sources and are legal. Fireflies and glow-worms as well :-)
Extra rules: Usage of artificial light source is basis for a DQ.
Basic editing. The last one was S-Curve III in October 2013.
There were natural light challenges before, but none quite like this:
- Natural light indoor portrait
- Natural light indoors
- Natural light portrait
Since i have mentioned basic editing, i have couple of questions.
- Are masks on adjustment layers legal? My guess would be NOT since they might be considered as selections.
- How about selective desaturation without using selections? This should be legal if done by changing global color parameters or similar.

Well, that would just about rule out everyone who lives anywhere near civilization wouldn't it?
I go 70 miles one direction for one place I like to shoot night photos, 80 miles in another direction, and there are still traces of artificial light at star trail-length exposure times or at high enough ISO to capture a lot of stars and galaxy detail.
I suppose shooting during the day when the streetlights are off would be what you are encouraging? |

clouds and curtains can act as diffusers and any white or light colored object can act as a reflector.
i'm on board if you limit the restriction to natural light sources . eg. sun, moon, stars.
modifiers come in too many forms to restrict the use of them.

The basic idea is to work with natural available light (sun, moon, stars) with as little shaping of it by the photographer as possible. If you happen to have a wall nearby, good for you, but don't bring your own reflecting object to the set.
