I know this may be the ultimate in frugality, but since I'm unemployed at the moment, homemade will have to do...but does anyone have any tips on making a softbox for an on camera flash? I have some nice material that is thin and white and semi-opaque. Has anyone ever made one of these before? |

I know there's a forum on this subject I just can't find it. There's also a link to a project for building your own softbox from basic plumbing materials. I can't find that either, but maybe someone will be able to dig it up for you. If I find the link I'll post it.

I've tried to use a small white plastic 50% opaque (roughly) box before that my business cards came in. This worked reasonably well and was small enough for me to rest on the camera. Couple of things to bear in mind:
- The effect is relative to the size of your softbox (bigger, softer light)
- A reasonably opaque softbox will reduce the flash power quite a lot
Personally I'd try as many different household plastic containers/etc as you can find. If the plastic is too transparent you may still be able to use it by wrapping some kitchen paper over it.

I think you are thinking of a lightbox, something a little different. I know what link you are talking about and I actually made it. It was like 10 bucks total. And it works great. |
