Oh, I'll be in - probably procrastinate the shooting until tomorrow, but who knows. Might feel motivated tonight. |

What this challenge needs is a yellow flag: You can use any photo from 2014 as long as it has not been used in a previous challenge.
That would allow for true Holiday Card style, where people often showcase a photo taken sometime in the year, not a photo taken in the month before Christmas.
Maybe next year... |

Just submitted my order for our Christmas cards. It had a higher priority than this challenge :) Can't enter it, photo was made more than a week ago :( |

LOL I take care of that problem by using carefully chosen challenge entries for images on the calendars. I do up two batches, one for family and friends and another for clients.

agreed.
It wasn't possible to pull this together in a week.. and it's been a while since I've missed a challenge. Happy Holidays.
At least my employer thought ahead... I was able to provide an image for the company holiday card and it looks great!! |

tried shooting last night, got my shot, then I started messing around with editing under advanced to try to improve it, turned to rubbish.
now I can't look at the original without seeing the failed version, will have to try to get some time to do something today. maybe. |

It's expert rules, Ryan. Don't know if that makes any difference, but more leeway to play around with editing tools.
I shot the main subjects and got them selected and copy/pasted last night, now to figure out a concept and how to make it not suck.

yes, expert was the source of my woes.
I tried to get a decent fireplace pic, but not having a wood-burning fireplace I'm stuck with the height of the flames and the pre-set "embers", which don't hold up in photography the same as a real fire with real wood, so I tried to expand upon what was there. I thought it looked great when zoomed in on the sections, but then I looked at the whole of the image and I thought "well, I'd vote this a 4 without commenting" and decided that I wasn't satisfied with it as an entry. |

hardly; take a look at my average vote given, I mostly vote 6+, with some 5's, anything below a 5 takes a real piece of work (either it has to turn me off immediately based on subject matter, or it has to be so bad that it has no artistic merit to me in the slightest).
the fact that I'd vote it a 4 speaks to the lack of artistic merit and just overall bad quality of how it looked, with nothing that I found to be redeeming of my own picture.

So many ideas floating around in my head, but no way to execute them due to either lack of props and lack of good lighting. Oh well, guess I'll be sitting this one out this year. Maybe next year I'll be in my own home and have more to work with.
I've taken a couple rather plain shots. Who knows might enter one just for the hell of it, even though the score will be mostly 4's

I din't manage to make my entry. I had the idea, but not the time :-( Also my decorations are still in boxes under the bed.
This is what i would have shot and submitted. This is a version from last year. My first experiment with the home made gridded snoot.
Happy Snowman
