I've given this some deep thought since encountering a blatantly racist remark in the forums, but I think that this needs to be stamped out.
It will probably be ignored by most people as harmless, stupid and just worth ignoring... but I feel that if this is not acted on, the message is sent that this is acceptable behavour. Also, given the international community here, perhaps some people are offended by this but don't want to speak up.
I don't know about the laws in America, but in the UK this is actually a criminal act which can lead to prosecution under the 'Incitement to Racial Hatred' act (please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm no lawyer).
Let's make DPC an accepting place to be for everybody.
I don't want to single out the remark, I don't want to turn this into a witch-hunt.

not that I agree with people making racist comments, as there is no place for that either in here or anywhere in our society... but I do believe in an individuals freedom to say such things... it's called freedom of speech... if you start limiting one type of speech, sooner or later it leads to other forms of speech being outlawed... I am horrified to hear that the UK has laws restricting free speech...
on another note, racist comments here are a violation of the TOS as this is a private site... please point out the racist post to a moderator so it can be removed... just besure it really is a violation of the TOS, as I have seen at least one over zealous moderator remove a post of mine that was clearly NOT a violation of the TOS.. they just didn't like what I said...

Even the good old U.S. of A. has federal and state laws against such wrongdoings. So, do not be so alarmed at the better practices of the U.K. and other civilized peoples.
Unfortunately, there are not any laws to stop fools, morons, imbeciles and the uneducated from demonstrating their lack of class and social understanding.
Hiding behind the right to free speech is not acceptable either. I do not believe that the American forefathers had the protection of people that promote hatred in mind when they were forming your bill of rights.
In fact, they were trying to forge a new society that protected the rights of the Pilgrims and others, who were oppressed under previous governments prior to landing in North America.

I will say what has been said before....if someone is a racist, just report it...and they will be gone...not questions asked.
I know the founding members and the SC have no place for that crap.

Irony perhaps? The barrier to entry in demonstrating "lack of class and social understanding" is low; you may find it in gutters and ivory towers alike. Damn peasants.

Of course, they may not have had anyone but white, christian males in mind too. Who's to say? Fortunately, those words make a vast umbrella, intentional or not, but certainly for the greater good as we see it today. That's a whole other debate.
The forums, from what I gather, are not intended for the dissemination of free speech, nor are posts protected as such since it's all private. Personal attacks (racial slurs, etc.) and the like are simply verboten. |

It may be best to let someone of authority on DPC know who it was so the person can be dealt with accordingly. Often just posting something like this in hopes the person learns from it is futile; considering the person was ignorant enough to be making racist comments in the first place, its unlikely. |

I was just going to do the same, kirbic. I trust you and I were going to PM for the same reason. Thanks for taking care of this, and to Bob for alerting us to this harmful behaviour.
