Mine shrinks it down, but it's a little larger than 800 pixels tall. When I press f11 for the firefox header to go away, it brings it back to a larger size. The vertical is going to be what gets you on this. I'm thinking staying within the 800 pixels vertical is going to show it the best on the majority of screens. |

The forced resizing you see is the new implementation of our voting page. I outlined it in the original announcement:
Originally posted by langdon: Since we are aware that this size increase will be problematical with smaller monitors, we will be incorporating automatic scaling of images to the available screen real estate. Since automatic scaling was first discussed in these forums, the algorithms have improved dramatically, so much so that we are confident quality will be maintained during any potential downsizing. |

"Forced resizing"? I smell consultants. |

Question: I'm having issues entering both FS (File exceeds the 300 kB limit) and Jewelry (File exceeds the 700 kB limit).
The resizer I experienced before allowed me to put bigger files into my workshop and upload to the challenge from there.
Will I not be allowed to do this anymore? |

I don't know the answer, but these really are things that are in your best interest to handle on your own. Don't rely on getting the best photo entered when software is going to reduce the size in file or area.

The Free Study was posted before the size change, and is running under the old size limits of 800px/300KB. |

Result of looking at my first entry with the new size limits on this site: I like it!! |

I understand that. But it won't resize for me like it used to when I uploaded workshop entries to the challenge. |

There are certain edge cases where the automatic resizer can't do anything. Some examples:
- if you enter a 1200x1200 image that exceeds 700kb, it will fail because there's nothing to resize, so there will be no reduction in file size without changing the compression (something I don't want the resizer to do)
- if you upload a 1201x1201 image that exceeds 700kb, it will be resized... however if the final result exceeds 700kb, it will fail |

Thank you. So this resizer acts differently. Understood. |

Why my 1200px FS study image looks smaller when I upload it?!?! No automatic resizing - my monitor is 1600+ pixels wide and the image is not vertical :( |

The October Free Study was posted up for entries before October 22nd, so it's still using the 800 pixel size, the last FS to do so. You are being resized to 800 by the algorithm. |

Free Study is running under the old rules/size limits. Try making an 800px/300KB version and submitting that. |

Thanks guys. The image looks good with the auto resizing, so I can leave that one :) |

I just submitted a 770ish sq pix image less than 300kb for fs and it's still sizing that down further. |

I still can't get the auto resizing to work. I'm back to sizing it to less then 800 on the long side and making sure it's less than 300kb. I'm doing the resizing. |

Google Chrome, but that hasn't changed in about 3 years. I tried on my ipad too, which has worked up until now - from workshop to challenge, same as the MAC.

Oh, OK - I've just noticed it has never worked for me using Safari, but does work in Firefox. |

Chrome works really well to resize to available screen real estate. It snaps nicely to fit. Pretty nice for voting. Quality seems very good.
Safari Version 6.1.6 (7537.78.2) does not resize the image in the voting window. |

Safari on my iPad mini resizes well, no problem. |
