My Sony F717 supports USB 2.0. My computer also. However when I transfer my photos from the camera to the computer I see no difference in speed between my USB 2.0 computer and when I do it on a USB 1.0 Computer.
Is there some option I need to set, or is the speed limited by the memory stick speed? The Memory stick is a 256 MB Lexar Memory Stick Pro. |

Are you sure all USB ports on your computer are USB 2? Some PCs only have some of their USB ports as v2.0..

Bingo. Also check on how they are configured.
Another thing to try is to use a card reader, if transfer is fast with that, then the PC end is good. |

Yes because when I connect my new 160 GB external hard drive to the same port & transfer pictures, they transfer at light speed. |

In that case it's not the PC end. I don't think MSPro has any limit as slow as USB 1.1, so I'd suspect the camera or software..

If you use a USB hub, the whole thing will only run as fast as the slowest thing connected to it. So make sure that's the only thing running on the hub. Also, there are several different types of USB2.0, some are very slow. This is not often documented. |

I am running windows XP and using the expolrer to connect to the camera and get the photos.

I think there may be different cables for I and II; the only one I have uses a completely different end though, so I can't tell from that ... cabling does have varying capacities; e.g. really old Ethernet wiring won't support 100/1000 speeds now common in hubs/routers.

Hmmm, really. I always thought it was one of those where they SAID it did matter, but it really didn't, just because they wanted you to buy it. That's good to know though, thanks. |

I find my USB 2 reader runs much faster when I plug it into the back of the pc rather than one of the front two (go figure).

Even faster memory sticks. Pretty sure it's the cable that is slowing the download.
