So I'm thinking of selling my Nikon 4500 and investing it into a Nikon D70, not that it will contribute that much. Anyway, I'm definetely going to miss the 4500's amazing macro capabilities... unless of course I buy some macro lens for the D70. Question:

What are the macro lenses I could get for the D70 that will offer macro capabilities as good as the 4500? How will the depth of field be and what about the barrel distortion? Also, how much would it cost me?

Another side question: How is the D70 for Infrared Photography?

here is a link to the Sigma 105mm Macro F2.8 and here are a couple of test pics I took with mine.

I still have my 4500 and the macros from it have more DOF range than my Sigma 105mm lense (even at a high F stop like f22). But I have to be 2-4cm close to my subject and the Sgman lense you can be a good 12 inches away. :-)

The sigma lense is a great lense!!

12 inches! that makes a lot of room for lighting. it's usually very hard to light the subject uniformily when 2cm away.

I haven't had the chance to invest in an IR filter yet, but I did do a lot of reading on the subject and the D70 is supposed to work very well with IR photography. I'd drop in some links, but I think they are on my other computer.

i've also read that the d70 does well with IR also. i've seen some IR shots from the d70 (not that i could remember where i found 'em online), and they do come out quite good.

as for the macro, your capabilities will only be limited by the lense you choose. also you'll have more options in that with the d70 you'll be able to use different lighting technique's (ring-flash, off camera flash, etc) and benefit from that...

If you can afford it, the D70 is the best bang for the buck at the entry-level dSLR market. I personally love mine, and I think you will too

I have taken a few test shots through my 50mm with my IR filter. Unlike my 5700, I have shorter shutter speed (not in the seconds), it does come out with the reddish cast to it, but I have an action that changes all that. They looked pretty good. Nothing to brag about that I was shooting. Just testing it.
