people dont see the same things. they all have their own interpretation and score according to what they think. its asking for a lot to ask everyone to open their mind to others...

Each has his/her own point of view. We see things through our own eyes. Nonetheless, I think flexibility and open-mindedness are essential traits of a good art critic (...or, here, fair challenge voter). We have the freedom to vote as we want, but it just seems as if some people refuse to stretch their minds and try to see in new ways. If I present an image that, to me, evokes the sense of touch, you may not immediately see it that way. But maybe if you asked yourself "what about that object or that scene might make someone want to touch it?", ...and thereby recognized the photographer's intent, - maybe then you could turn your attention to the other characteristics (creativity, composition, lighting, etc.) and give it a fairer score?
Edward Weston's "Pepper No. 30" is a picture of an ordinary pepper, but photographed in such a way as to evoke emotion, feeling, ...it makes me want to run my fingers across its sensuous folds. Almost anything that can be seen and pictured can be better understood when touched.
So, no, I don't think it's asking a lot for people to open their minds.

All I know is that this is the first image I have ever entered that I feel is AWESOME and it's scoring one of my lowest. So you just can't ever quite figure!!

How do you see what your scores are before the voting ends? |
someone left a comment and said they gave me a 10. :) |
and if you're poppin the heck out of your update button and analyzing the changes in votes and averages, you can tell if they really gave you a 10, or if they just wanted to make you feel good ;) |
And :p on you! I can't monitor my score that closely (job, life, reality tv, etc.) but I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt. If, after voting, I see no one gave me a 10, I'll call her out. ;) But I'll be living in my happy, blissful, "i got a 10" world until I see otherwise. :D Such a happy place!

and you probably did get a 10! and it was probably deserved. any comments of mine to the contrary i can only attribute to tangental symptoms of the update sickness ;) after all, why should life get in the way of hitting the update button? |
