Ah yes, repeat challenges ... they do happen. Why, look at the front page today and you'll see 'Shadows VIII' (yep, that's an 8!) challenge waiting for entries.
Today's cameras have really helped us with controlling dark, detail-less, shadowy areas in our photos. Pretty much every camera offers HDR settings to control and keep some detail in those hard to control shadowy areas. :-)
Kind of a throwback to intentionally catch shadows, eh? Mostly tongue-in-cheek here with this rebuttal, as using shadows in an image is a technique well worth using today as it was yesterday ... and noise in a photo can be appropriate in some scenarios as well.
