Pretty nifty, Karin! I'm assuming the gray blank areas lacked coverage from either era...??

Gray blank areas?
Unless I misunderstand you, those are not blank... they are areas of the original sky (and/or overexposed road) which of course was b&w and very bland looking. In case of the church, there WERE no buildings behind it back then - the grey area is sky. It sure used to look very different then.
