I actually got his Sensor Swab (Copperhill). Don't go to the last page (package deal), just go here:

Got it in a few weeks. Works great.

What did you use as a swabbing tool? Did you carve out your own spatula? |

The only other way I think dust can get in is if you have a telescoping zoom lens as they pump air in and out of the chamber - that's really probably the biggest cause of dust. Investing in primes or high quality lenses with internal focusing and extra O-rings will prevent this. |

I have only three lenses so far. The kit lens, which does telescope (if by telescoping you mean gets larger, as opposed to being a push pull zoom), the 70-200mm/F4L, and the 50mm 1.8.
So is the kit lens bringing in dust?

Yeah, that'd be my guess. |

Remember my yucky sensor? Well I went by the Montreal Canon service center on my lunch hour today. I figured it would be a while until my stuff arrived so I thought I'd give canon a try. 10 minutes and I was out. And this is what I got.
Cleaned:
Way to go Canon. Only one spec left. Woo hoo!

Pretty good, but why is it that Canon can't completely clean the sensor. Is there no hope? |

Looks better but still quite a few spots in the top left and along the top.
It took me 4 cleans the completely get my sensor clean, but as the saying goes. If you want a job done properly, do it yourself :)

I got a couple of "Goobers" on my CCD from a trip to the beach the other day so I decided to clean the CCD. Not being able to get a decent "Pec" here in town I went to the Optometrist and explained my situation. They said that another Optometrist in another town was a keen photogrpher and he might be able to help. (They even rang him and let me speak to him). He told me that he cleans his CCD using a special cloth that they use for cleaning multi coated lenses. He suggested using propanol for this proceedure(which I had in my garage luckly). I cut the cloth to the width of the CCD as he described, gripped it with a pair of long lockable surgical tweesers and swabbed the CDD very carefully and hey presto....no more Goobers. Note: This proceedure is not for the faint hearted!!!!! Sorry about the long winded post but I just had to share this or I'd bust. lol
