On the way home from the camera shop with 20 d on the front seat ,I was thinking about testing the 20d vs the Rebel . Do you think that the 20D with 75-300 IS lense @ 75mm and the Rebel with 28-135 IS lense @ 75mm would be a fair test for the same shot at the same time ? Both shots hand held. |

Why not use the same lens on each camera and use a tripod to get the exact same picture? |

I personally can't answer that, but whatever test you do (using the same lens, subject, shutter speed, aperture, blah blah blah), I would love to see it! |

Thanks.
I will use the same lense for the same shot with the tripod and the IS turned off.The battery charger has no cord ,just plugs in to the wall outlet . |

Very interesting indeed. Mind you, would be good to see the full sized originals for a full comparrison (which you can't do here).
My initial thought there is that the 20D has done a better job with the exposure. I am particularly looking at the waterfall and the mass of white whater where it lands.
I also think the 20D has better contrast (I am assuming no post processing for either shot).
The colours are slightly different as well, I prefer the 20D there, although that is probably very subjective and I do not know exactly what the original colours are (refer to the grass on the RHS for example).
I would love to see exactly the same shot with a 10D as well and see if it was closer to the 300D or the 20D, and I would suspect the former.

Nope, the 300D is at 125 mm, the 20D at 75 mm. Different lens as well maybe?
The earlier pair are a better comparrison I think.

Looks like the 300d is maybe on parameter 1 which may explain the colour differnece. |

What is parameter 1?

Were these shots taken with the same metering mode, same shutter speed and same aperture?
Parameter 1 on the DR increases the sharpness and the color saturation. Digital Rebel is set to Parameter 1 by default.
The 20D also has this same Parameter but the 20D is set to Parameter 2 by default which is the same settings that the 10D uses. All in camera sharpening and color saturation adjustment settings set to "0".

Bill your are right the 20 D was set to parameter 2 ,I did not know that until I checked the camera settings ,other than that everthing else was the same. I am sorry to say I was just a bit hasty in posting those images. Sorry Guys !

Nope Randy, it was still a good comparrison anyway :) Would love to see another with the parametrs set as well if you can be bothered.
Is the in-camera sharpening any good, I've never used it.
Does it work on RAW as well or just JPG mode?
