Shot my friend mostly for fun, but she will be getting prints (a few 8 x 10's) for auditions. My 4th time trying portraits so I think it went really well! Thanks!

Very nice poses. It just seems she needs some more light on her face.
Picture 1 and 2 are probably the best in lighting,
Picture 3 is my favorite pose
Picture 4 I like the composition a lot
Picture 5 is fun and her eyes just pop
Picture 6 is a color version of 5 and I think I like 5 more because of her eyes.

Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more. Which lens were you using?

I'm using a 28-80 sigma 3.5-4.5 (macro) somthing or other. It's pretty beat up and it's very unsharp. Really hoping to replace it, maybe with an 85mm 1.8, but it's kinda expensive for me.

I like 1 the best, followed by 6. I think the lighting & composition of 1 really shows off her features. Her eyes in 6 really "sparkle".

I agree with Ironworker. I like 1 (3992-1small.jpg) the best too followed by 6 (4022editsmall.jpg).

Picture 1 is GREAT. The backlighting is so well done. And her face is well exposed too! Did you use a fill flash or bounce card?

I like how you got creative with the pose for picture 6. I'm trying to learn to be more creative with my posing.

For picture 5 (4022-bweyessmall.jpg), I think there is too much contrast in areas such as the hair but the skin seems very flat. Perhaps a different B&W conversion method such as playing with the Channel Mixer would help. I find it's hard to get the balance right and that it really helps to duplicate the image, and convert each copy to B&W with a different Channel Mixer setting, then compare the outcomes and choose the best one. Possibly a simple curves adjustment, making more contrast in the midtones would be all that is needed though.

Picture 4 (4032bweyessmall.jpg) is kind of flat feeling. Maybe some levels/curves could bring it to life.

Picture 3 (4021small.jpg) is pretty nice and probably my 3rd favorite.

Picture 2 (3995small.jpg) looks like it could have been fabulous, but just didn't _quite_ work. I like the backlighting and her hair and eyes here, but her mouth and lips just make it feel like she doesn't want to be there. Probably just the wrong moment, it's so hard to capture that perfect instant in these kinds of shots.

I'd like to see more of your portait shoots when you do them! :)

Thanks so much for the replies! I did use flash for this... built in camera at that. the bounce card wouldn't get in a decent possition. And for some of these i had to shield the lens with my hand from the sun. I should be doing a few more different people in the coming weeks.
