I noticed a wasp (or a bee?) preying on ants this afternoon and shot a video.
Wasp vs. Ant on YouTube
I'm pretty happy with the video in general, but other than just showing off, I'd like to know if anyone can peg what this little fellow is.
Whatever he is, I'll take all of these we can get. |

Cool video Cory. It was interesting that he didn't just attack the first ant he saw...he was selective. |

Very interesting video indeed.
I can't seem to be able to isolate many distinctive features from the video (seems blurry on my tablet), but it's possibly a Bald Faced Hornet. Maybe a Tiphiid wasp, or paper wasp since it seemed slender in the video however these are yellow and black and from here the one in your video looked black and white. |

It's normal behavior for parasitic wasps to capture ants, paralyze them, and plant their eggs in them. More than a few varieties do this, apparently. |

We'll take all of 'em. Anything that eats fire ants is a friend of mine.
Seems likely that this little fellow is a digger wasp of some sort. |
