I've been invited to be a guest on KDKA Radio (Pittsburgh) this afternoon, to talk about some weird new wedding photography trends. This, specifically, is what prompted the discussion:

Showing Off Butts

Of course there's also the "trash the dress" trend going on, too. Are there others you've encountered?

What's the weirdest thing you've been asked to photograph at a wedding?

The other trend I been seeing is the girls posing like guys and the guys posing like girls...
Kinda hilarious really and much more tactful than seeing butts..

I gotta admit, I don't hate it. ;)

i had a friend do similar to this at his wedding last year. his wife wasn't overly keen on the idea at first, but looking at the prints i gave them some of her favorite images were the groomsmen and groom holding the bouquets of flowers, the groomsmen doing the "OH MY GOD!" face while he's holding his hand out showing the ring, and a picture of her with her bridesmaids in a "football huddle" that looks like they're sharing a secret from the gathered group behind in the scene.

they wouldn't go for some of the other suggestions, being on the conservative side of the french catholic viewpoint.

i absolutely applaud the goofing off, but think it would look better with a marilyn monroe style updraft vs stuffing skirts in their waistbands like they were sloppy toileteers.

i was in my friends wedding last summer, i had the photographer take a few pics for me that i was going to photoshop into some epic scene, like star wars.

he screwed them up, not surprising since he screwed up the rest of their pics...

What Karen said!!

This is trash, a wedding is meant to be a sacred event, this cheapens it and just another sign of how upside this world is, surely everyone must be able to see that!! But there will always be scoffers!

Some friends from the Society Creative Anachronism had a themed wedding back in the 1970s ...

yes, own your own wedding. if ass is your style, so be it.
fwiw, what my scatological sister said upon viewing that link was, uh, those don't look like typical bridesmaids.

That no underwear shot has got to be staged.

I think that would be very sexy and very cool to have seen it as a Marilyn Monroe setting...

I am taking some pictures for fun of my best friends brother and his to be bride.. we are going to be concentrating on fire photography.. Hoping I don't catch anything on fire in the mean time LOL
We are also going to be doing some sparkler long exposure photography.. I am really loving the long exposure stuff... they are excited to even try it since they wanted something really different.

Hey now, you're the one living upside down, we've established that north is 'up' centuries ago. ;)

Give maybe 10 years for the woman who participate (bride and bridesmaids) and lets see if they are comfortable/proud to show off the album with the but shot to friends, family, and maybe their own children. Personally this is a trashy fad that will most likely result in the participants being embarassed years later or a worse headache. Given that this is the internet and anything posted online could show up in search result - imagine what future employers will think doing a background check and finding this.

Won't the eventual children of this union be proud. I much prefer the Jurassic Park invasion wedding shots.

LOL yeah but at least those participating in the Bridezilla shots are usually showing a sense of humour. I've shown my ass and other body parts a few times here, but carefully. And if my sis had asked me to hike my bridesmaid gown at her wedding, to show off in the official album....fuhgeddabuttit.
