Hi, I'm new to the site, and I'm hoping that someone here can help.
I'm looking to subscribe to a good Amateur Photographer magazine that's based out of the US (AP magazine out the UK is too costly), something that will have tutorials perhaps, tips and tricks, and basically teach a beginner photographer the ropes. Contests and resources are a plus.
Does anyone know of any?

I asked this same question at //www.dgrin.com a while back. I tried a free 6 month introduction subscription to PcPhoto and was extremely unimpressed. It felt like approximately 70% of the publication was advertisements. I saw so many ads, in fact, that sometimes I wasn't sure if the actual articles promoting products were honest suggestions or payoffs. I've noticed this is the trend in most publications out there.
I've since subscribed to American Photo in the hopes I'll actually see some photography, interviews, tips and nice pics. I'll eventually post a review at Amazon. Did I mention there are tons of reviews at Amazon?

I'll second that about Outdoor Photographer. Peterson's Photographic isn't bad either, I used to get both, but I stuck with Outdoor Photographer. |

After bringing home magazines from the newstand for three months I finally arrived at Outdoor Photographer. 90% of the articles contain information you can easily get by lurking in internet forums, but I really enjoy the images each month - they give me ideas.

Digital Camera World. It a bit pricy, but the free software included each month more than makes up for it IMO. ....
Whoops I guess it is an UK publication though. I remain wholly unimpressed with American Photo mags, they either tilt so heavily towards film or they are filled with ads.

Though it has "Pro" in the title I think one of the best Photographic magazines around today is the all new "Digital Photo Pro"
They have had some great articles on how-to for the digital photographer.
It is only $19.97 for 6 issues a year. But I feel the advertisements are not as bad as most magazines. More meat for your money.
Sorry I just love this magazine and no I do not get paid for referals :)
