I took a drive to my parents house today and as always I take my camera with me most of the time. While sitting on there back patio enjoying the cool weather after hurricane Ivan past through a couple of days ago I notice one single cattail plant standing, the winds had flattened the rest. I took a picture of it because the sun was shinning on this single standing stalk but the background was not the best. Georgia pines in the background but a nice blue sky beyond that. I took the picture @ ISO 50 / A 2.8 / Shutter 1/400. It turned out ok but not what I wanted it to. My camera doesn't have a manual focus setting so I went with Aperture Priority to try to get a small DOF. What went wrong?
Please tell me what you think, is this the best with my camera quality or could I have done something better. Comments please.

| I read your comment before I looked at your picture, and I was expecting the picture to illustrate what caught your attention about this cattail. I think you should have tried to take this picture in a way that would have shown how remarkable it was that this one was standing tall while all the others were flattened. I guess what I am saying is I would have approached framing this photo completely differently. Hope this helps. |
