Thanks for the reply. I understand your primary avenue of income, people photography be that weddings or street. I love the feel of a decent sized DSLR in my hands but yes, its becoming a back breaker. The interest in the EM-1 I have is that it looks and feels like a DSLR, has all the instant buttons and dials and controls I need for making fast on the fly changes but in a package 30% smaller in form factor than a traditional DSLR. Olympus lens line up is darn good for everything from street and wedding to wildlife and macro. A friend uses it exclusively for his wedding business and ditched all his Nikon gear for it 2 years ago.

That's definitely true. I loved the 17mm f/1.8 when i had it.

You can pick up a Leica M8 for about £1000 and that will produce extremely decent B&W, granted not quite an MM (I do miss mine) but it is the next best Leica for B&W IMO and I have owned all the digital M's at some point in time. I still have an M8 and that says something right there. Depending on what you like to shoot I suggest the Zeiss range at f2 they are reasonably priced and deliver spectacular results.

Yes, i've been pondering the M8 for a while. Figured i'd wait as a wedding kit is priority and i don't really want to mix systems. I can see some sort of Leica in the future though.

Anyway, cameras and lenses arrived today and i'm well pleased so far. They feel wonderful in the hand - lovely weight. The 23mm and 56mm feel lovely and solid (i haven't really played with the plastic kit lens). Just going through the cameras now and updating firmware etc. I had a couple of hours with the 23mm and the 56mm in the garden when Matilda got home from school. Matilda is a very reluctant subject these days and nigh on impossible to photograph her staying still. I'm loving the OVF - very exciting getting to grips with that. It's going to take a while for me to settle in with it i think - luckily, my next wedding is two weeks away so plenty of time to play, although i've got a property job on Thursday and an engagement shoot on Friday so it should be interesting to use them for those.

Here are a few first shots from earlier that i like. From RAW so doesn't really show the film emulation stuff, i'll get round to playing with all that soon i'm sure.

I can't wait til my XE1 and 56mm get here.

As far as the film emulation goes I set my X100s on B+Y and shoot raw&fine about 95% of the time. I love the way the evf shows the shot as it will look with all settings aplied. I find that even if I eventually want a shot to be in color I can more easily see focus and composition in B&W.

I still love my Nikon D700, but my X100S is my favorite camera I have ever used. It reminds me of shooting with my old Canon AE1 which was the first gift my wife ever bought me and was the first camera I ever owned.

I just received my XE1 kit and 56mm f1.2. First impressions are that I love the form factor obviously (slight differences from the X100S but close enough to make it familiar having shot my X100S for a month now) and the kit lens is very sharp and nice. The camera is slower focusing than the X100S but I knew it would be. Haven't got to play around with the 56mm yet but it feels very well made and the aperture and focus rings feel smooth and very nice to operate.

I did all the firmware upgrades right off the bat.

Nice stuff Clive. The 56mm is THE lens in my book. Pity the raw doesn't reproduce the film emulation as a side car type of thing, annoying but understandable. Keep it coming when you can, there are eyes and ears awaiting.
