I didn't particularly think this was a bad picture, but apparently a lot of people did... without much to say for it. I'd like to improve but no real direction was given aside from the comment that said it lacked interest.

the biggest thing 'wrong' with it for me is that your blacks arent really black and this hurts the contrast (and the photo in general) a lot. the glass/top part of the lamp post however is beautifully done.

And also a better/ more interesting composition could have helped. But the first thing i said is the most important thing. I you are seeing blacks on your monitor then maybe your calibrations are off a bit.

yeoua, I didn't get to yours in the voting but I would probably have scored it a 4 or 5. It does lack interest as the other commenter said. Also the subject is in the center of the photo which generally doesn't make for an interesting composition. It also seems very flat with no lights and darks. Adding some contrast might have helped. Or maybe an evening shot would have added some interest.

Keep trying. Look at lots of other DPCers photos, especially the ones who score high. Read the comments and see what people liked about them. Good luck :)
