Thank you all for your hints and tips.. this morning we take off for our trip..
I am not gonna be one of those newbies that just click but thanks to you all, I have certain shots which I am after... we have changed our route and decided to hit the badlands and black hills, SD First..
My daughter is taking photography as part of her senior class and I am so excited.. her classes will start while we are away so we had a chance to speak to her teachers before hand and she is excited because she is going to allow my daughter to also take pictures and use them for her class project and first assignment
My SD Cards were on sale for $11!!!! These are the High speed specially made for DLSR so I picked up quite a few of them.. extra batteries, have my filters and my settings which I want to use and I even confiscated my dads new tripod because it has a special level on the thing! LOL
See ya all on the flip side and I am sure I will have tons to see and photograph.. it will feel great to be back in my old stomping grounds again...

A gradient ND filter may be useful, as it can be used to bring the brightness of the sky down so that you can expose the shady side of things and still get good color in the sky. It's very useful for general shooting "on the move" as well.
You will probably find the CPL useful in the daytime too, as it will help with contrast and sky color. Be aware that there are good and bad CPL's out there. Some of the cheaper ones will take the sharpness out of the shot.
Have a fun and stress free trip.
Check in when you can. |

Sounds like a super cool adventure! Have a wonderful and safe trip.
Oh and don't forget that rainy days could be a photography blessing. Get those shots others don't as they hide inside. A plain produce bag with a rubber band + lens hood does the trick. Well most of the time.
