This seems to have no manifested itself as a rumour.
It seems to have started off, here and other sites, with a "I bet Canon now ....." and grown a little into "there is a rumour that ...." which in reality there is not, it is just people, possibly correctly, postulating.

It's Monday the 20th. I just called Adorama, and they told me they don't even have them in yet from Canon. They couldn't tell me when mine would be shipping or how far down on the list I was or how many they were getting. They actually seemed a tad bit annoyed that I was asking these questions.
Truly, I would think a company as large as they appear to be would keep better track of these things. I'd like to hear "you are number 48 on the list and we expect 20 cameras during our first shipment, and are not sure of when our next shipment from canon will arrive" or something professional like that.
I am a bit annoyed. I wish I had ordered from B&H or Ritz. Why does everyone seem to have their first shipment except Adorama?

I just spoke to Canon, unusually helpful as they often avoid these sort of questions.
Original date to reach retailers was this week.
Expected date now is Oct 1st to actually reach the retailers. The guy I spoke to though warned that is a long weekend, so it may not appear until the Tuesday is shipping takes a little longer, or it arrives and the retailer doesn't deal with it that day.
I also asked about how complete the shipment will be, for instance I am #26 in line for a batch of 110.
They will be shipping in % terms .... that mob may get 25 cameras as they ordered so many (my guess, as I am 26th) where as the little photo store on the camera that ordered 4 gets 1. Seems a fair way to do it I guess.
He guessed, and he stated it was a guess as he did not know for sure that it will go like this .....
They should have enough come into the country to fill all the existing orders from all stores (i.e in my example the store would get all 110, Canon can't know how many they have orders from customers for). However, it may take more than one shipment within Australia to do that.
After that, if it goes like the 10D, he expects there will be a delay for a month or two where no more are available as they catch up again on manufacture.
So, as reliable as we are likely to find out I think.

Thanks Simon. I am absolutely dying of anxiety to get my hands on mine. I ordered with Teds the day they began taking pre-orders - number 2 on the list and it's been hell ever since.
C'mon, roll on next week - I can't stand being without a camera let alone waiting for a new one :)

Hi All,
I got my 20D on Monday from London Camera Exchange in the Strand (London, UK) I have not had the opportunity to put it through its paces but first impressions are excellent.
It feels great in the hand, lighter than you'd expect but with a solid feel. The camera is easy to hold and it gives the impression that it will not easily slip from your grasp.
The LCE are currently selling this model for £1200 (body only) which is expensive (Dabs have it advertised for £1049) but LCE have stock and you can walk in a buy now! Dabs is a 1-2 week wait from today.
My guess is that LCE will drop the price in a month or two when supply has stabilized.
