Yea me again, new thread.

A photographer was beaming about lack-luster performance of digital cameras in composing portraits when it struck me oddly - photography terms. What made me giggle on the other end of the line was him spouting over the phone the phrase "..now, when you're taking a family out in the field to shoot them - " and well, he lost me after that. With hand cupped over mouth to withhold uproarious laughter, I thought of my own dialogue.

Question being: what terms do other photographers use when conversing with photographers alike, and does this change when engaging with non-photographers?

depth of field becomes "amount in focus" with non photographers
macro becomes "close up"
telephoto becomes "big lens" lol

I mostly talk in technical terms with everybody, often forgetting that not everyone knows what I am talking about. But the look on their faces (non-photographers) usally makes me correct myself and speak in a more generic manner.

Well, when speaking with my wife...

"Lens" becomes "lifelong investment".
"Digital SLR" becomes "better camera".
"dpchallenge.com" becomes "that photography website".
"golden hour" becomes "your turn to do the dishes".

I am more possessive when I discuss it with my husband; DPC becomes My Site. He knows which site is meant!!!
