SC members can not win ribbons. I think this would be a welcome addition to the site rules.

Now if I can just figure out how to get the rest of you disqualified.........

Absolutely. If everyone else left the site and it was just me paying $25 a year to win all the ribbons I would still make a congratulatory thread for myself when I became #1 on the all time ribbon list.

you should at least allow myself and one other member so that the three of us can compete for which color ribbon we win!

secret council. the shadow government that secretly alters the course of content on dpc. Bear_Music has recently been made a member and their human relations spokesperson

I'll volunteer to be the third member. I've been here forever and I've never won a ribbon of any colour except brown.

SCRAPPLE IS STILL IN THE FREEZER.......This just may prompt me to send it YOUR way soon..poor bear...we love you......as long as YOU weren't the one asking for validation of my free study.

What's with that anyway....why am "I" always getting asked for validation?

If someone likes (haha) my photos enough to want to know how I did them, you'd think they would p.m. me with a compliment or praise.......what.... they have to SQUACK somewhere behind my back and try to get me kicked out...EVERY TIME!??? THIS is getting tee-dee-us.........I may not play for a while. harumph.

I think....really I THINK....(funny in and of itself) that whomever asked for validation of someone's photo should be publicly listed for all to see. I wonder if there is a validation NAZI IN THE CLOSET somewhere...... or are they all on S>C> ???????

Anyone else want to know who asks for their entries to be validated all the time?

Well, that's a terrible idea. There's nothing wrong with asking for validation. The reason it happens to YOU all the time, basically, is because you're dancing on the line between painting and photography, and people wonder if the effect is legal in our ruleset. It's as simple as that. In this case, it wasn't us. It also wasn't the same person as first asked last time :-) They spread the joy around...

I agree with Lovi if a person is asked to validate their image that's NOT in the top 5 then the SC should at least let us know if it is a random validation request or if someone is requesting the validity of the image.
Also the person asking for the validation should be asked WHY they think the image should be validated.
Then you can pass that info along so in the future we can stay away from the line.
My crappy shots are miles from any line yet I think I was asked about 4 time in the last few months for validations.
Really no biggie but I have to admit the one you guys hit me with during the TPL 2 weeks after the challenge was over for an image that came in near the back off the pack was a low blow. That was just nasty and if it wasn't some random SC validation then it should have set up a flag or two for a person trying to gain a percentage point in the TPL.

Can we get this thread back on track? We need to put our heads together and figure out how we can change the rules so I win all the ribbons.

Let's not lose sight of what's important folks........ME

There are no random validation requests as far as I know. They're either due to placement or request (with a valid reason, you can't just ask for a validation because you feel like it)..

Be very, very clear on this - I'm definitely one of the folks who will request a validation on any image that I feel has violated the rules. I don't care if it's at the top or the bottom, I feel that it's important to not let a bad precedent be set, so I do what I think is the right thing and report it for validation. Sorry if that bothers anyone, as that's not my intent, but I feel no shame in admitting to regularly requesting these validations. FWIW, I'm usually right too, and they go down in flames with a pink DQ, which brings me a mixture of satisfaction for a job well done, and a bit of sorrow for the person who's been DQ'd (no-one likes that!).. The thing is, I feel the rules here are fair, reasonable understandable, and overall are a very good thing, so I feel like it's a good thing to see that they're enforced, equally and regularly.

The other persons who request validations may not be as up front about it, but I'm sure their reasons are not that different from my own, and to accuse them of doing it to bump themselves up a tiny bit or to skew the TPL results is fairly silly - and even if that is the case, either you broke the rules and got DQ'd, or you didn't... Why take it personal?

Cory really 2 weeks AFTER the challenge is over? That's just rude.
Every time I have to validate one of my crappy shots they never tell me WHY. Is that too much to ask? Look at the crap I submit I'm not savvy enough to walk any lines so if I happen to be accidentally on a line, wouldn't letting me know be the right thing to do?

If it's a validation that's fine if it's ball breaking it's not.

As of now there is now way to tell if your acting in the best interest of DPC or just breaking peoples balls. Not a bad idea to take some of the ball breaking out of the equation.

Whenever a member sends a request for validation, we look at the whole situation before requesting an original. If it just looks like "ball breaking", as has been so quaintly mentioned here, we'll ignore it. You can be sure of that. And if some individual seems to be showing a pattern of spurious or self-serving requests, be sure we'll discuss it with him or her.

As to revealing the "reason" for a proof request when we make it, the downside of that is the possibility that someone will tailor their submission/explanation to avoid being tarred with that particular brush. MOST people won't, we know that, but on the off chance that someone's willfully breaking the rules and trying to hide it, it's just not a good idea to pass that information out.

Regarding the "2 weeks later" stuff, I've actually done that myself before I was SC: looking through challenge results and reading the photographer's notes, sometimes I've thought "Hey! That's not allowed!" and called it to SC's attention. It doesn't seem unreasonable to me, and in any case I can tell you from my new SC perspective that it doesn't seem to happen very often at ALL, so it's not a major issue. It may have happened once since I've been on board.
