Left a comment... btw, I recently added some of your b&ws to my favourites. Some great stuff in your portfolio! |

This is an excellent, refreshing photograph!
Would taking the photo earlier in the day have fully lit the window, rather than casting a shadow on the top part? If so, I would give it another shot as it would be slightly less distracting.
But please let my praise of this photo drown out the critique...very nice!
Edit: I should add that I love the placement of the cloud in the reflection...good eye!

Sorry, I have to come back to this.
I want to emphasize that if the shadow was removed and the texture was more apparent on the wall and frame, this would make a really great print!
If I were you (and if you had access to this location again), I think it would definitely be worth some extra work and another shoot to get this 'just right'. I love it and a photo like this has universal appeal!
Oh, and I think the green in the frame is perfect and I personally wouldn't change the hue at all...just my opinion.

Beautiful!
That shadow though... just a suggestion but why don't you try cropping to include a little more of the building itself? Not too much - just enough to de-emphasize the shadow at the top.
Thanks for sharing :-)
p.s. where was this photo taken?

I wouldn't sacriface the clouds to get rid of the shadow. I can look at the presence of the shadow as adding another element of interest to the image, not as a negative. |

wow! what an image. looks to me like one of those 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' situations...
i agree both with coolhar and thatcloud/bobster's comments...would it be possible to go back and reshoot at a different time of day from the same spot, then combine the images in photoshop?
even if not, this is wall-hanging material. |

I fully agree...
And coolhar, you make a good point. Although I still think I would prefer it the way I described earlier, the shadow certainly does add interest in a way. |

Thanks, everyone for the comments. I appreciate them. The picture was taken last Sunday on a trip to the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, which is about 100km from where I live (Edmonton). Unfortunately, the site is only open on weekends. I'm planning on revisiting it at the end of September/ beginning of October.
Is there any way to remove the shadow in Photoshop? |
