| We at DPC have a very sophisticated concept of copyright. Even though we jealously guard our photos from being reused, we don't see any copyright violation at all when we duplicate another person's photo as closely as we can. So take advantage of DPC's unique philosophy to freely take credit for someone else's vision. |

It' only not a copyright violation because there presumably) is no attempt to defraud ... if I were to copy one of your images and then try to sell prints as a "Posthumous Original" I'd be infringing your copyright, even though I took the picture. |

I don't really think it's so much DPC as it is the law.
I mean really Don, do you think that all landscape photographers are violating copyrights rightfully belonging to Ansel Adams? Are all street photographers just ripping off HCB?
Personally, I tend to think of it as 'inspiration' - but more than that, isn't DPC really a learning site first anyhow? Aren't we supposed to be glad that someone found our work inspirational enough to try to follow in our footsteps? |

Yes, but people who join up and read this thread in a few months won't be noticing that, and may well take the issue/sugestion seriously.
Speaking of serious, anyone who posts yet another bogus suggestion thread as a "joke" and clogs up the front page, bumping more important threads, will be subject to an immediate one-month suspension.

I knew what day it was and your motivations when I made my earlier post -- in that context, I felt adding a smiley would have been superfluous and not quite in the spirit of the game ... :-)
