In an old thread, people talked about the RX100. It says that the lens equivalent is 28-100. Is that with the zooms? So my maximum is 100mm when zoomed all the way in? Is that with the optical zoom, but not the digital?
All I know is, even with a point and shoot, I'll still want a reach of 300mm, if at all possible, or I'll probably not use it very often. Is this even possible on point and shoots, or is the quality to sucky at that point?

I have a point and shoot camera that I use for my "purse" camera and every day camera.. it does zoom "optical" at 300m feet, however, it is a point and shoot and I do not know of a point and shoot that does NOT have lag time.. mine has major lag time especially when you zoom out.....
Sony DSC-HX200V is what I own and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it as a point and shoot..the hard thing is when you do zoom to the 300mm is that it tends to get extremely grainy and noisy.. the pictures are not as clear as I would have hoped them too... I am not sure what an RX100 is, but for my Sony it was the best one out there at the time.. I still use it and right now especially for my HDR shooting until I can get my DLSR that I wish for.. For me the quality is ok up to 200mm... passed that, it is very very sucky and I would not suggest shooting passed that point.. I do have some eagle pictures which I took with my Sony at this link and a few shots and you can tell which ones are really grainy/blurry... those I shot at 300mm and this was before I ended up with my first DLSR a few months ago...
