I'm hating Adobe for doing the cc bit and feeling like I have to buy into it when the price is low.
I already have cs6, and I don't use lightroom. Thinking of paying for something I already have irritates the hell out of me. But people are saying the cc version is faster, and my photoshop does run slow.
Is speed (and lightroom, which I don't use) the only thing I'm going to get for my $10/month.
I've been doing an online chat with Adobe, trying to figure out if it makes ANY sense for me to do this.
This is how the conversation has been going so far (this is after at least 4 or 5 other attempts to get an answer from this person. I closed out of the tab just now, otherwise I'd post the whole stupidity.)
Adobe: You will get latest features which are not included in CS6
Me: What a frustrating conversation this is. Is it too hard to understand that I'm wondering if there has been any significant upgrade in photoshop cc, or if I am paying for the same thing I already have but with the name cc instead of cs6?
Adobe: You are paying for the latest features which are not included in CS6.
ARGGGGHGHHH!!!! I hate adobe even more now!

Well, the CS6 you bought is the basic version, and CC is the "extended" version, meaning (among other things) that it has the "stacking" capability that basic CS6 lacks, meaning you can do cool things with that... |
I do have something available under scripts "load files into stack". Isn't that the stacking?
(actually, moving this over to the new thread I just created, because others might have more to say. The problem is this thread doesn't generate as specific info, since people know it's advertising for the price...)
I gave the educational package of cs6 -- I don't remember, but I believe it said it was the extended version...

One way that we all be forced into CC eventually is that if you ever get a newer model camera the old versions of Photoshop will not support it. You will need CC at that point. |

If you have stacking, you own extended. You can find out by doing the "about" thing from the "Help" tab when Photoshop is loaded. |

I do know that my PsCC is constantly updating all the time. I use Lr and find it to be essential in my workflow. Remember I used Elements (baby version of Ps) for years always wanting to get Ps but never willing to fork out the $$. And the RAW converter in Lr IMO is way, better than Ps's I've become very dependent on a few of the tools in Lr that make things much easier. As a matter of fact I found some very comprehensive tutorials by Anthony Morganti. He is comprehensive easy to listen to and gets the point across...I've listened to his first 5 tutorials this weekend and I plan on listening to more of them...
According to what I've learned/found out Lr was designed for photographers in mind (non-destructive to your files) and Br is more for those that do graphic designing and use photography with that. But that is/can be destructive to the photographs. I haven't even touched my Br as of yet. There hasn't been a need that I can tell...and if anyone can give me a reason that I should I'll start exploring that as I have it in my pkg.
I had just updated my Lr (which they refunded) $79 and I was getting ready to update from Elements 10 to 12 another $59 (if I found it on sale) to $79 (regular pricing). So right there I was had spent more than the $120 vs if I had the $9.99 a month subscription.
I equate it to one trip to Starbucks (which I don't really do) or one lunch out (which I do) per month...
As I understand it CS/6 will stay at that level and not receive any more updates therefore in time it will be like having any older version of CS out there. PsCC will continue on.
There are about 5 other programs that you get with the pkg. I don't remember them all but I know that Br is one of them and that you use Br so that would be totally updated.
Bottom line...I now only have software that will automatically update as any new releases are done. I know that many don't like the idea of not "owning" their software....me it has given me the opportunity to have the most up to date Adobe software...because of the previous pricing of Adobe and having to re-buy it each time there was another update it was NOT obtainable for me...now it is.
I also know that there are many out there that have older versions than CS/6...this is totally worth it. |

One notable new feature of CC is that you can open Camera Raw as a filter/smart filter. I can't tell you how cool that's been for me... Updates are flowing in like, weekly. Most of them have nothing to do with how I use Photoshop, but a surprising number of them are handy. Just little things, a lot of the time. But it's nice to have it done seamlessly. Camera Raw has updated twice since I've started with CC, for example: that's useful for me, now that I'm SC, because I need to be able to view ALL different sorts of RAW files...

It talks about creating a pro site with Behance -- has anyone done this? Could I get rid of my smugmug subscription and save that way? I just skimmed it, and when it talks about "easily adding an e-commerce link" to it, it doesn't really sound like a pro site... ?
(I know absolutely nothing about this part, so pardon me if I some extra stupid on this.) |

Camera RAW as an image adjustment layer?? |

YES! It's so cool! Like a filter. It's not the first iteration of Camera Raw (you still open your file the same way, through that interface) but then once it's open you can open Camera Raw again from the filter menu. Actually, I misspoke. As a filter, not as an adjustment layer. If you're working with smart objects, it can be a smart filter. But anyway, it's cool. |

So, because this is also a stupid question, I thought this might be a good place to post it. The only reason I still use Br is to view several image side by side for selection purposes. I can't seem to be able to do that in LR. When I click, say, 3 images to view them large, side by side, it only shows me one. In Br, I can view several at a time to compare them. I've tried it in several of their modules and I can't seem to display more than just one. Am I missing something? It is critical for me to be able to do this. |

I flag (P) in Lr and mark them as my favorites (X) for reject. Then I use Edit>Select Flagged, then add 5 stars to the best of those, using U to unflag those I don't want anymore. I go through them one at a time but only those that are the best of what I've selected using the stars to further select the ones that I really like.
here is a tutorial on flags, stars...etc
one more - this is more of what I do...but as I go through I do X on those that I KNOW I won't use and delete them off my computer and out of LR permanently....these are the OOF and just plain can't nor ever will use pictures.... |

Yes, up to a point. It won't rescue hopeless cases, but it's useful. |

I'm thinking about signing up so I can do a trial (since, supposedly, the price break is going away). You can cancel within 30 days. I'm wondering if I can keep both cs6 and cc on my computer, or if it will replace pieces and cause problems if I decide against it.
(I have a download version of cs6, and it's nasty trying to find and download it again. Plus, if I like cc, then I'll give my daughter the other version, and they probably keep track of all the downloads.... So if I've downloaded it too many times, I might not be able to transfer it to her.)

you can transfer it to her...at least I've been able to transfer multiple copies (various versions when I've upgraded each time at about $79 per pop...do the math) of Elements to various people here on DPC when I do my upgrades...
And I've kept my Elements 10 on here as well, because if they go up some stupid amount of $$ per month I'll have to go back to my Elements...I own my Lr. And I have to use them on my laptop as it's not compatible with PsCC/Lr5 (Vista). But as of now it's what I have for back up... |

To the first question, yes you can run them both at the same time. I did so for months, until I put in the SSD. I haven't re-installed CS6 on the new drive.
As to the second question, on all Adobe products you're allowed to installations. Did you know that? So you can have CC on a laptop and a desktop at the same time, or CS6 of course. If you need any more installations than that, you "unregister" the product from one of your machines. You can still leave it on the machine, but it won't function if you don't input the serial number again. ESPECIALLY if you want to take it OFF your machine and gift it to Meggye lock stock and barrel, be sure you unregister it on your machine BEFORE you uninstall it.
