For the purpose of this challenge, "wildlife" should be considered non-domesticated mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians living in a natural environment. Now that you know what to photograph, take your best shot! Advanced Editing ruleset.

Wildlife V Oct 2010
Wildlife IV Oct 2008
Wildlife III Jan 2007
Wildlife II Jan 2006
Wildlife Oct 2004

It has been 3.5 years since we have had the joy of shooting for a DPC Wildlife challenge. Never before has there been such a long drought. Spring is an optimal time to photograph wildlife, with migration, emergence from hibernation and procreation well under way.

Good choice...

Maybe wait until at least the first week of April

Define spring again... none of the things you refer to are happening here at present. With temperatures at the -20ish Celsius range, I am not the least bit surprised that the critters are opting to wait a tad longer.

I'd enjoy this... It'd give me some reason to still own a Canon (or six)...

Spring is the time between the Vernal Equinox and the Summer Solstice. There is a time lag of several weeks between a challenge suggestion and a challenge topic in play. I suspect May or June, but I don't know.

Trust me Hahn23 when I say that I know exactly when spring occurs... It has already begun, but when one considers that we are still experiencing -20C or better weather, this year's temperatures don't fit the graph you provided.

...and if we get as much rain as we got snow... in May and June I will be too busy fighting off mosquitos to take photos :O)

bump!

Please do this before someone else realizes there's a piebald deer running around my neighborhood and decides to shoot it (dead).

Any chance this could be the current "late" Challenge???
04/04/2014 10:36:44 AM · #16
About three weeks time would be good for me!

We should totally do a wildlife challenge. :)

lol people are starting to come out of the woodwork. Looks to me like some folks are doing some promoting. I suspect Wendy might have something to do with at least one!

That's because we're going on a shooting adventure together, and he asked what the current challenges were. :)

Haha seconded to yesterday! I did too!

Yep, do it.

And yet there is still no DPC wildlife category after years of asking. Only animals and nature. The challenge should clearly state no zoo and no back yard bird feeders or sugar feeders or any hand of man. I can spot a fat un scathed zoo lion at 50 paces...
