I had realy a hard time last week entering for Travel guide.
I went to Kinderdijk to shoot my photo and returned home to discover that the picture I actualy wanted to make (the one I entered) was realy boring...
I took some other pics too and selected another one, but could not choose.
Asked everybody and I got realy mixed answers.

I'm not complaining here, I scored my highest score and highest place (16) ever so I'm very happy, but what would have happened if I did send in the other one.

I think you made the right choice. For me the first one has more interest and a better composition. Your second choice has some beautiful color, but does not show as much of the charactor of the area.

I'm a rank beginner, and brand new to the site - take my opion as that - an opinion, worth the price you paid.

Congratulations on your personal best!!

I wouldn't have been able to choose! Both awesome pictures for the challenge.
By the way....your pic should have scored higher.....as a Travel Guide shot it was bang on.

It IS a travel guide photo, just pick up a travel guide abot Holland, and see if you can find this picture, there are also ton's of postcards with these 5 mills on it.

Just picture-google the word Kinderdijk and see almost the excact photo 200 times :)

Same mills, same POV from the web:

And again, different POV:

I like both shots, but considering the challenge you definitely made the best choice for the reasons you mentioned.

Very nice shot. As you said, it's very straight-forward but that's what I think of when I see a travel shot.

Good choice!
