I rec'd an email "newsletter" from Sigma ... I don't need one but you may find it tempting at $899.

Canon version at B&H.

Used to have one of these myself and enjoyed it overall.

I used to have one of these. It's not a bad lens for the price but the autofocus is very slow

Some of my shots below. There are some large files in there which will give you a good idea of the quality of the lens, which I think is good

Sigma 150-500mm

Curious, so I had to research ...

Sigma 50-500, $899, weighs 4.19 lbs
Tamron 150-600, $1069, weighs 4.3 lbs
Sony 70-400, $1598, weighs 3.31 lbs
Canon 100-400, $1699, weighs 3.04 lbs
Nikon 80-400, $2296, weighs 3.5 lbs

As for the autofocus speed that Mike mentions, I didn't really notice many conditions where I had any trouble with that. Shot a ton of soccer action photos with it, but that was in usually good daylight conditions. Worked out for me. Think I paid around $1100 for it and sold it for $750 a few years later.

Whatever floats your boat they say. :-D
